Cleaning Kitchen Cabinets – Tips & Advice

Create your cleaning solution

There are a number of cleaning solution options that may work for you. You could use a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and warm water. A solution of dish soap and water works as a degreaser on most surfaces to clean off stubborn stains. Alternatively, you might prefer to use an off-the-shelf all-purpose cleaner as that may suit your preferences. Whatever you choose, you should look at doing a spot test first. Stick some cleaner on a spot that can’t be seen to make sure that is doesn’t cause any stains or discolouration.

Start from the top and work your way down

Start from your top shelf and work your way down to the bottom shelf. Using a spray bottle you can spray directly onto internal and external surfaces and then wipe away the solution with a cloth. You may have to scrub stubborn stains. It’s easier to clean kitchen cabinets when the stains, gunk, and debris have been removed first. Do the dirty work before you do the general wiping down. If you work your way from the top to the bottom, then you’re less likely to spread dust and dirt from one shelf to another.

Rinse and dry

Once you have removed all stains, dirt, and grime, then wiped down and clean each surface with your chosen cleaning solution. You should rinse each surface with a clean, damp cloth. After rinsing, you should then finally dry each kitchen cabinet surface with a dry rag before replacing everything back in each cabinet.

Clean all the extras

To really clean kitchen cabinets you need to make sure that you don’t forget the “little things.” There is no point half doing a job. You need to do it properly. Make sure you wipe down the walls of the cabinet, and clean any handles and knobs. If you really want to go the extra mile you can also make sure you clean out any crevices, corners, and door hinges with an old toothbrush.
